The Royalty started out as the Public Hall in March 1927 and screened its first film at the opening ceremony. The hall was also equipped with a stage and dressing rooms, and the flat stalls floor had removable seats and a maple dance floor for conversion to a ballroom. However, film was the staple fare. Boasting just over 600 seats in the stalls and balcony.
With the 2025 updates we have introduced a full working bar in the rear stalls which is open when we have live events, When we have films there is a smaller bar within the kiosk area in the foyer. We have also created an accessible toilet in the rear stalls meaning anyone now can attend any screening or event we have in the main auditorium.
With the newly reinstated stage area we can now host live shows once again, this does mean we have lost one of the smaller screens however we are now able to offer a much more varied programme to create a much more sustainable venue going forward.
If you are interested in hiring our main auditorium for a private function/film or anything else please get in touch we also have still the smaller screen situated in front of the building above the foyer this holds up to 50 people and is used for smaller birthday gatherings or meetings.
Absolutely loved this cinema it was like stepping back in time everyone was so friendly and I would choose this cinema over any of the new venues, what a little gem wouldn’t change a thing
